1 critically injured in north Wichita apartment fire
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - One man was critically injured after his north Wichita apartment caught fire Saturday morning. The Wichita Fire Department confirmed crews were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 2700 block of N. Amidon just before 10 a.m.They arrived to find light smoke coming from the apartment. When they got inside, they found a dresser on fire and a handicapped man on the floor.

Smoke continues to billow from smoldering Shawnee landfill
SHAWNEE, Kan. (KCTV) - While smoke may still be seen billowing from a landfill in Shawnee, crews have been working throughout the day to extinguish the blaze. The Shawnee, Kansas, Fire Department says that just after 2:50 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, emergency crews were called to the landfill at 17955 Holliday Dr. with reports of a fire.
CEO of reStart Plans to Renovate Hotel into Homeless Center
The non-profit organization, reStart, is in the process of repurposing a La Quinta hotel in Lenexa, KS into a homeless center. reStart assists individuals at risk of and experiencing homelessness through prevention, straight outreach, and by providing temporary and permanent housing. reStart also provides clinical and unemployment services to unhoused individuals with their goal being to provide an exit from homelessness. reStart CEO, Stephanie Boyer, believes Johnson County has been making strides to help the unhoused in the community.
