Elk River Area School Board approves 2024-25 school calendar

The 2024-25 school year for students in the Elk River Area School District will start on Sept. 3 (the day after Labor Day), end on June 6 and feature more alignment of student days for elementary and secondary school students. Valentine’s Day will be the only exception.

There are nearly a dozen considerations that go into making the school calendar, including but not limited to conferences, transportation, master contractual agreements, professional learning days and breaks as well as workshop days, holidays, testing schedules and feedback from the public, staff and the Elk River Area School Board.

The Elk River Area School Board approved the 2024-25 school calendar at its March 25 work session.

Spring break, which started on March 25 and went through Good Friday, March 29, will be from March 17-21 in 2025.

Winter break will start on Monday, Dec. 23 and run through Wednesday, Jan. 1.

District 728 students will have a fall break from Thursday, Nov. 28 (Thanksgiving) through Monday, Dec. 2 when they return to school.

Members of the calendar committee were also able to align elementary and secondary school conferences in October. Furthermore, student contact days across elementary and secondary have been aligned as much as possible. The only day that is not aligned is Feb. 14, when elementary school students don’t have school for staff development but secondary school students do.

Staff will have additional professional learning days to support professional learning associated with the READ Act in accordance with new legislation.
