    Update: Subject sought in April 1 stabbing in Elk River taken into custody

    The Elk River Police Department has learned that the subject in a stabbing was taken into custody by the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office after the subject's vehicle was spotted at the Brainerd Welcome Center at 7393 MN-371 S in Brainerd, MN. The subject was taken into custody shortly before midnight on April 1 without further incident, according to Elk River Police Capt. Joe Gacke.

    The Elk River Police Department received a report at approximately 1:43 p.m. on April 1 of a stabbing in the area of 11600 Block of 197th Ave NW in Elk River. Officers learned that the victim, a resident of the house, was attacked with a knife by the subject prior to officer arrival.

    The subject was identified as Anthony Weidner, a 33-year-old Elk River man. The subject was believed to have left the residence in a black 2019 Dodge Ram pickup truck with the Minnesota license plate DEE-074.

    The subject was described as a white male, 5’8”, and 300 pounds. The victim was being treated at an area hospital. The subject is known to the victim and resides at the same residence.
