    Elk River police report: Vehicle crashes in Elk River after incident at Otsego Target; Truck house;hits and trees fall on road

    A vehicle crashed Monday, May 20, near the intersection of Main Street and Highway 10 in downtown Elk River following an incident at the Target store in Otsego.

    The Wright County Sheriff’s Office released the following information.

    At approximately 3:05 p.m. deputies responded to the Otsego Target for a report of possible transaction card fraud and suspicious activity by several individuals in a red Saturn Vue and a maroon Chevrolet Silverado that were reportedly still in the parking lot.

    A Wright County deputy followed the two vehicles north on Parrish Avenue in Otsego and eventually lost sight of the Saturn. Deputies then located the Saturn crashed near the intersection of Main Street and Highway 10 in Elk River.

    A Minnesota State Patrol trooper who was in the area assisted in detaining two adult males who had fled from the crashed vehicle. A witness also stated that two additional males had exited the vehicle when it crashed. The owner of the Saturn, a 22-year-old from Brooklyn Park, and a 24-year-old man from Minneapolis were arrested and booked into jail for possession of stolen property and controlled substance offenses.

    Wright County deputies also located and stopped the Silverado on Irving Avenue in Elk River. Two adult males were detained. One of them, a 23-year-old from St. Paul, was placed into custody and arrested after he was identified as one of the individuals allegedly using a stolen credit card at the Otsego Target.

    This case is still under investigation by the Wright County Sheriff’s Office. Additional suspects and additional charges stemming from this incident and others are possible, the sheriff’s office reported.

    The Elk River Police Department assisted the Wright County Sheriff’s Office and the State Patrol. A gun was recovered with a suspect, according to the Elk River police report.

    ERPD collaborated with BCA in Lowell Street investigation

    The Elk River Police Department announced at 10:53 a.m. May 16 in a Facebook post that it was collaborating with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension in an ongoing investigation in the 19000 block of Lowell Street in Elk River. ERPD said there was no known threat to public safety and asked the public to avoid the area to maintain the investigation’s integrity. At 4:25 p.m. that day, ERPD updated the Facebook post to say that the traffic restrictions in the area had been lifted.

    Elk River Police Capt. Joe Gacke said Wednesday, May 22, that there are no additions to the press release that they intend to make at this time.

    Truck crashes into house; driver arrested

    A 38-year-old Zimmerman man was arrested after a truck crashed into a house in Elk River.

    Police were called to the 21000 block of Brook Road at 10:41 p.m. May 17, where an officer spoke with the driver, who allegedly had been drinking, according to the police report.

    Windows broken in two vehicles at park

    Two theft from vehicle incidents were reported May 20 at Woodland Trails Park in Elk River.

    In one case, police were dispatched to the park at 20135 Elk Lake Road shortly before 3 p.m., where a rear passenger window on a vehicle had been shattered. A purse valued at $100 was taken from the back seat.

    While at the park the officer noticed a second vehicle that had a broken passenger window. Some items were stolen from inside the vehicle.

    Trees fall on roads during spring storm

    Police were called out to two instances of trees in the roadway in Elk River as a storm moved through the area Tuesday night.

    At 10:42 p.m. May 21, officers assisted the Minnesota State Patrol on Highway 169 with traffic control after a large tree fell onto the highway, blocking a lane. Officers provided emergency lights so that vehicles did not continue to strike the tree, according to the police report. The Minnesota Department of Transportation arrived, removed the tree and cleaned up the debris. The incident happened in the 19000 block of Highway 169.

    At 1:31 a.m. May 22, police were dispatched to Ridgewood Drive and Proctor Road for a tree in the roadway. Police located a large tree branch covering the southbound lane. The street department was contacted.

    Woman, 81, in ditch arrested for DWI

    Police arrested an 81-year-old St. Francis woman for DWI after being called to a vehicle off the road at 205th Avenue and Quincy Street in Elk River shortly before 4:30 p.m. May 17.

    When police arrived, they found the woman in the driver’s seat. She said someone came over the center line, causing her to go into the ditch. She was not injured, but was placed under arrest for DWI. She was taken to the Monticello Hospital for a blood draw and to be medically cleared before being transported to the Sherburne County Jail in Elk River, according to the police report. The vehicle was towed.

    Other recent DWIs include:

    • A 72-year-old Big Lake man was arrested after an officer traveling north on Jackson Street in Elk River at around 11 p.m. May 20 noticed a vehicle swerving in its lane.

    Drugs found in vehicle of driver slumped at wheel

    Police were called to the 18000 block of Freeport Street in Elk River shortly after 4 p.m. May 17 to check on the welfare of a driver slumped at the wheel. The officer arrived and noticed drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle, according to the police report. The 30-year-old Plymouth woman was taken into custody for DWI. A vehicle search found controlled substances.

    Juveniles reported on roof of Walmart

    Police were dispatched to Walmart, 18185 Zane St. in Elk River at 7:18 p.m. May 19 after someone reported that two juveniles were on the roof. Before police arrived the juveniles got off the roof and ran into the woods. Police checked the area, but did not locate the juveniles.

    Teen arrested after stolen vehicle report

    A vehicle was stolen from the 1000 block of Lions Park Drive in Elk River. The theft was reported to police on May 15. An 18-year-old Elk River man was arrested and transported to the Sherburne County Jail in Elk River.

    Anoka man cited after two-vehicle crash

    A 73-year-old Anoka man was cited for failing to stop at a semaphore after a two-vehicle crash at 181st Avenue and Twin Lakes Road in Elk River.

    The other driver was a 16-year-old Zimmerman girl.

    The crash was reported just after 3 p.m. May 21.
