Drunken driver arrested at Westbound Liquor

A 44-year-old Elk River man was arrested driving while intoxicated after making a trip to Westbound Liquor in Elk River.

After making contact with the man, Elk River Police observed signs of impairment shortly before 10 p.m. on June 11. During interaction with officers, the driver became uncooperative with officers, according to Elk River Police Capt. Joe Gacke.

He reportedly refused all field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for DWI. The male also resisted officers and attempted to harm himself by banging his head on a squad, Gacke reported. Elk River Ambulance assisted with restraining the male and transporting him to Monticello Hospital. The male was later booked into Sherburne County Jail.
