    Elk River police report: Wrong-way driver arrested for DWI; vehicle, bike collide; and man swindled out of $20,000

    A 48-year-old Monticello man was arrested for DWI after driving the wrong way on Highway 10 in Elk River.

    Officers were dispatched to Highway 10 and Upland Avenue at 2:17 a.m. June 26 on a report of a truck driving east in the westbound lane of the highway.

    The driver was taken into custody.

    Driver cited after vehicle, bike collide

    A 21-year-old Elk River woman was cited for failure to drive with due care after her vehicle collided with a bicyclist near Proctor Road and Elk Lake Road in Elk River.

    The bicyclist was a 70-year-old Elk River man who suffered minor injuries, according to Elk River Police Capt. Joe Gacke. He was taken to Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids.

    The vehicle’s windshield was shattered and the vehicle was dented, according to the police report. It was towed from the scene. The driver was not injured.

    The incident was reported at 12:21 p.m. June 19.

    Man swindled out of $20,000 in Bitcoin

    A 21-year-old Elk River man reported being swindled into giving away $20,000 in Bitcoin for an investment opportunity. The man later learned it was a fraud and he is not able to access his account.

    He reported the matter to police on June 21.

    Man denies pointing gun during incident

    Police responded to two related traffic complaints with both drivers calling on one another shortly after 7:30 p.m. June 19. One alleged that the other had pointed a gun at him during the incident near Highway 10 and Main Street in Elk River.

    Gacke said it appeared to be a road rage incident involving a 23-year-old Otsego man and a 39-year-old Elk River man.

    Officers conducted interviews with both men. The man accused of pointing the firearm denied doing so, according to the police report.

    Two cited after a theft in progress

    Police were dispatched to The Home Depot in Elk River for a theft in progress at 7:05 p.m. June 18.

    Officers located two women. A 48-year-old St. Paul woman was cited for theft, and a 51-year-old Hopkins woman was arrested for driving after cancellation inimical to public safety and cited for theft.

    People went into his work truck

    A man reported seeing people on his camera going into his work truck in the 14000 block of 190th Avenue in Elk River. Nothing was damaged or stolen.

    The incident was reported to police on June 24.

    Woman warned after tossing cigarette

    A 32-year-old Elk River woman was given a verbal warning by police for throwing her used cigarette out the window of her vehicle and onto Main Street near Lowell Avenue in Elk River shortly before 3 p.m. June 25. She told the officer she made a mistake and was having a very bad day. She picked up the cigarette and apologized.
