ELK, Wash. -- Seven people are displaced and one pet is dead after a house fire in Elk on Sunday afternoon.

According to Spokane County Fire District 4, fire crews responded to a house fire around 12:30 p.m. on July 14 near East Valley Lane and Hardesty Lane in Elk.

SCFD4 said the fire started in the basement and caused heavy damage to the basement and smoke and water damage to the rest of the home.

All seven people who were in the home during the fire, as well as two pets, were evacuated with no injures.

One pet died in the fire.

As of Sunday evening, SCFD4 said fire crews are "mopping up" and the Red Cross has been contacted to provide the evacuees with temporary shelter.
