Elkhart ISD looks forward to another successful school year

ELKHART, Texas ( KETK ) – This week marks the start of a brand new school year for many East Texas schools. On Monday, Elkhart ISD had their first day with their new superintendent Kyle Johnson.

“This really is the best district, this is the place to be,” Kyle Johnson, Elkhart ISD Superintendent, said.

Johnson’s ties to the district run deep, with his kids as students and family on staff.

“This year is a different feel for me because — knowing that I have an even further reach than I ever have. And so this is why we do what we do is for these kids to show up. See their smiling faces to teach them to train them,” said Johnson.

In 2019, Kyle Johnson was the principal at the Elkhart Elementary Campus. Most recently, he made the move back from Palestine, coming from Westwood ISD as the assistant superintendent of finance and operations.

Johnson said he is honored to be leading the district and build on the elks’ pride.

“It’s our job as one Elkhart here, four campuses but one district and the community around us to make sure that that happens,” Johnson said.

Elkhart High School principal, Jason Ives said Johnson is doing a great job and he’s glad to have him working alongside the staff to lead students to success.

“Supporting one another making it about one thing and that’s the kids and the experience they have while they’re here at Elkhart ISD,” Ives said.

For teachers, staff, and students,  it’s more than stepping back onto campus for a new year.

“It’s the first day of school but for some of them, it’s the first day of football practice, the first day of volleyball practice, the first day of cross country practice, our band kids they’ve already started,” Ives said.
