BELOIT—The Elkhorn softball team had slowly been chipping away at Beloit Memorial’s lead and was feeling quite confident it could complete the comeback on Tuesday.

Just one problem: the Elks underestimated left fielder Brooklynne Hereford-Foster’s arm.

Marlee Wester singled to left field with the bases loaded and allowed two runners to score, cutting the Purple Knights’ lead to 8-7. But Olivia Kettergaen got thrown out trying to make it to third by Hereford-Foster, putting Elkhorn’s comeback to a screeching halt.

Beloit (5-5, 2-4 SLC) had built a 8-3 lead through four innings before the Elks (3-5, 2-4) scored a pair in the sixth.

Hereford-Foster had a one-run triple in the fourth while Allie Gustafson smacked an RBI double and RBI single as the Knights recorded 11 hits. Amya Clark added a two-run single in the third and she finished with two hits, as did Jasmine Smith, Gustafson and Hereford-Foster.

Rilynne Cleland threw all seven innings and allowed 11 hits, a walk and struck out three. She allowed seven runs but just one was earned as the Knights committed six errors.

    • BIG FOOT 14, BELOIT TURNER 6: Lily Wolf set the tone for a great night of hitting for the Chiefs as she went 4-for-6 from the leadoff spot as her squad outhit the hosting Trojans 16-11 in the Rock Valley Rock slugfest.

Holly Kynell had three hits as did Kate Hummel, who hit a two-run double and finished with three runs batted in. Brylee Parott hit a two-run double on her way to three RBI.

Emma Bue went 4-for-4 with a double and RBI while Kamdyn Davis went 2-for-4 with two runs for Turner (4-3, 3-2), who fell behind 9-0 before scoring four runs in the third. Big Foot (6-3, 4-1) answered with a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth.

Kynell earned the win in the circle as she allowed six runs (one earned) on 10 hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Maddyn Saunders allowed 14 runs (eight earned) for the Trojans while striking out four.

    • CLINTON 6, EDGERTON 3: After starting 0-4, the Cougars have found themselves on a two-game winning streak as they took down the visiting Crimson Tide on Tuesday.

Morrison finished going 2-for-3 from the plate while adding another run-scoring single in the third and an RBI groundout in the fifth. London Winch and Ashley Theisen both had two hits for the Cougars, who finished with nine.

Theisen earned the win from the circle as she allowed three unearned runs on two hits and three walks while striking out 12.

Hononegah starter Zoey Calhoun went three innings, allowing four hits and only one run. She walked one and struck out two. Irelyn O’Brien came on in relief and toiled three scoreless innings, allowing two hits, one walk and two strikeouts.
