BELOIT — A pair of three-run innings and some clutch pitching by starter Dustin Foss in the final inning helped Beloit Memorial’s baseball team hang on for a 7-6 victory over Elkhorn in Southern Lakes Conference action at Pohlman Field Thursday.

Elkhorn put up a run in the first inning, but Beloit quickly tied it in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Ruddy Ramirez.

The Purple Knights pushed across three more runs in the second. Elks starter Abe Herchenbach experienced a bout of wildness, walking Trace Boatner, hitting Max Allen with a pitch and then walking Owen West to load the bases. Brooks Mitchell was also hit by a pitch to pick up an RBI the hard way. Ramirez grounded out to second, but with both Allen and West scoring on the play for a 4-1 lead.

Elkhorn cut it to 4-3 with two runs in the fourth inning and Beloit answered with three in the bottom of the inning. Allen was hit by a pitch for the second time,West walked again and both scored on a double to left by Mitchell. Reliever Ayden Smith was greeted by an RBI single by Ramirez for a 7-3 lead.

The Elks made a game of it in their last at-bat. Foss walked the first two batters and Owen Paddock singled to load the bases. Foss hit Jack Person with a pitch to force in a run and another came home on a double play to make it 7-5. A base hit drove in one more before Foss was able to end the game.

    • BRODHEAD/JUDA 8, EDGERTON 5: The Cardinals jumped on the visiting Crimson Tide early on, scoring four times in the first and adding a run in the second for a 5-0 lead.
