Big Lots Closing Stores Nationwide, Including Minnesota And Wisconsin Locations
Another one bites the dust! A ton of big businesses have announced closures lately, or at the very least, the scaling back of some of their locations. A recent example of this is Italian chain Buca di Beppo, which abruptly closed thirteen locations across the country over the summer. Another...
August primaries set the stage for November elections in Minnesota, Wisconsin
MINNEAPOLIS — The August primaries are in the books in both Minnesota and Wisconsin, setting the table for the main November elections in both states. A jubilant Rep. Ilhan Omar celebrated her win over Don Samuels. In 2022, Omar defeated him by roughly 2,500 votes that primary. This time, she won by a little more than 16,000 votes. She had admitted her near loss was her own fault, that she had taken the race for granted, but this time she put out a massive get-out-the-vote effort. "It's clear she did not do that this time. She spent millions of...
Wisconsin's Paul Hamm had own Olympic gymnastics medal controversy settled in courts 20 years ago
The news that USA gymnast Jordan Chiles will have to surrender her bronze medal, despite potential evidence that could refute the principal issue, surely rings familiar for Wisconsinites who followed the Olympics two decades ago. Waukesha native Paul Hamm won the men's all-around gymnastics title at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, but he...
“What we see today is dire”: Wisconsin facing critical shortage of blood donations
MILWAUKEE – While summer has historically been a difficult time for blood donation centers concerning donations, a Wisconsin blood services non-profit is sounding the alarm about what it’s calling a dangerously low blood supply. Our Place, August 14, 2024
Lake Geneva has a new ‘interim’ city administrator, and his name is David De Angelis. GSR reporters already heard one great comment about this affable and very charming man. A woman, having met him earlier, said: “How did Lake Geneva find someone almost exactly like Tim Waltz’? The position of city administrator is the most powerful leader in the city, except for the appointment of commission and committee members and breaking a tie should the city council (with eight members) end up with a tie vote. Those powers belong to the mayor alone, although the council still has to approve of his appointments. David has experience as both a full-time elected mayor for the City of Muskego for nine years as well as the Village Manager for Elm Grove for almost 21 years. In both communities, he was an innovator for process change and further professionalization of the organizations while creating positive workplace collaborative improvements and collegial work environments. This was done both in the high-growth 1990s and the fiscally challenging 2000s until today. Maybe, if coaxed a bit, he could get O’Donoghue’s Irish Pub, currently located in Elm Grove, a village David also ran, to open up a place on Maine and Broad Streets and replace some of this city has in that department but with much classier appearances and traditions.
Wisconsin election deniers Janel Brandtjen and Tim Ramthun lose in GOP primaries

Dan Feyen, R-Fond du Lac, prevailed over Tim Ramthun, a Republican from Campbellsport who served in the Assembly from 2019-23 and competed in the 2022...
New legal challenge to Wisconsin’s personalized license plate restrictions
(The Center Square) – There is now a First Amendment challenge to Wisconsin’s personalized license plate restrictions. The Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty wants a judge to strike down the state law that allows the Department of Motor Vehicles to ban license plates that are deemed “objectionable.” “Every citizen has the First Amendment right to express themselves, and that includes the message they convey with their personalized license plates,”...
