    Elkin loses in 2nd round of tournament, East Wilkes still dancing

    The 2024 1A NCHSAA Softball State Championship Tournament is well underway. East Wilkes is the only local team which remains in play.

    Elkin High School easily won their first round game against the Cardinals of Cornerstone Charter School, 15-0, with the game ending after only 3 innings of play. However, the Lady Elks fell short in play with the Rowdy Rebel Bulls of South Stanly High School on Friday, May 10. The Bulls had a strong sixth inning to end the Buckin’ Elks season, 3-5.

    The Lady Cardinals of East Wilkes easily rolled over the Wildcats of Andrews High School, 15-0 in opening tournament play. They then were faced with a fourth match-up of the season with conference rivals, the Lady Rams of Starmount. And for the fourth time this season, the Cardinals defeated their opponent, this time with a score of 14-5. In the third round of tournament play, the Cardinals once again had to face a conference team, this time the Vikings of North Stokes High School. The Cardinals were victorious with a score of 4-0 and will advance to the fourth round of tournament play on Friday, May 17 where they will face off with the Cardinals of Union Academy from Monroe
