As is tradition, wine festival weekend in Elkin kicked off on May 17 with the Hugh Chatham Health Foundation's annual fundraising gala. This year's gala, hosted at Coley Hall in The Liberty in downtown Elkin, had a garden party theme. Guests showed up and showed out in their finest frocks to support this vital part of the Yadkin Valley health community.

The gala has been a part of wine fest weekend nearly since its inception more than 20 years ago. Local wine is served, alongside a buffet of heavy hors d'oeuvres. Live music this year was provided by Martha Bassett and her band. Bassett is host of the Martha Bassett Show, a variety musical program which records live at Elkin's Reeves Theater and is broadcast locally on 88.5 WFDD as well as other syndicated stations.

"This year's Hugh Chatham Health Foundation Gala was truly spectacular," said Hugh Chatham Health CEO Paul Hammes. "We set records in attendance and funds raised which will be invested toward improving the health and well-being of our community and our team members."

The Hugh Chatham Health Foundation promotes and advances the well-being of the community with a special interest in providing financial support for community wellness activities and disease and injury prevention programs.

"The presence, generosity and fellowship shared throughout the evening was inspiring, and we are most grateful to our foundation board, staff, and all who worked tirelessly on the planning committee to create such a memorable experience," Hammes said.
