EHS Men’s Tennis traveled to the Burlington Tennis Center on Monday, May 20, as defending State Champions to battle once again for the coveted title. The Buckin’ Elks faced off with the Tigers of Triangle Math and Science from Apex. As if on repeat, the Elks cruised to the finish line, taking the win 5-0.

EHS head coach Junior Luffman remarked, “the guys weren’t as nervous this year in the state championship match. After being in the championship match last year, they played relaxed and were very focused.”

Sophomore Connor Ballard easily won his number two seeded match 6-0, 6-0. Likewise, his twin brother Aidan won 6-1, 6-0 playing at the number three seed. Senior Luke McComb sailed to victory at the number four seed, 6-1, 6-1 as did senior Jeremy Zamudio, 6-2, 6-2 at the number five spot. Sophomore Webb Snyder claimed the team’s fifth point with a 6-4, 6-3 win at the number six seed, officially ending the match with an Elk win at 5-0.

Just like the year before, the team’s toughest trial actually came with the western regional final match. This year the Elks battled the Dragons of NCSSM in regional finals play in an intense match that came down to the last doubles match-up. The Elks took the win 5-4, sending them back to the championship round and setting them up for the second straight title.
