    Elkin Wet Lightning pick up two more wins

    On a very hot and steamy evening, Tuesday, July 9, EWL hosted the Wytheville Waves at Elkin City Pools. The hot temperatures did not slow down the fast racing in the pool. Elkin took the win 966 to 511.

    In the girls 10 & under 50 meter freestyle event, Makaila Schosser (43.17) and Ester Dickerson (48.13) picked up the 2nd and 3rd place finishes. Harper Richardson (54.84), Annabelle Lowder (57.24), Iselle Westra (1:08.27), Wiley Stille (1:11.26), Adelynn Manigault (1:19.56), Inezleigh Westra (1:19.62) and Addie Long (1:31.92) rounded out the event with 4th thru 10th places respectively. In the same event for the boys, Ricky Royall (50.11) nabbed the top spot while Samuel Boggs (50.83), Michael Creed (57.44), Ryan St. Cyr (1:07.68) and Jack Gentry (1:08.09) finished in 2nd through 5th places. In the girls 11-14 age group, Amara Simmons (1:19.46) and Paisley Russell (1:22.35) claimed 2nd and 3rd place while teammates Jocelyn Johnson (1:26.59) and Melia Orta (1:38.10) picked up 5th and 7th place finishes. Graceanna Church (1:40.81), Adelyn Lowder (1:51.35) and Aliza Lowder (2:04.72) came in 8th, 9th and 10th places. Swimming for the boys, Lucas Long (1:22.85), Grant Leeds (1:35.54), Cohen Long (1:36.87) and Henry Stille (2:01.66) earned 2nd thru 5th place finishes. In the girls 15-18 age group, seasoned swimmer Amelia Presley claimed the 1st place finish with a time of 1:04.90. Sarika Hatcher (1:17.85) and Gabby Farmer (1:21.19) picked up the 2nd and 3rd place finishes. For the boys, Mark Davis (1:03.61) grabbed the top spot while Parker Church (1:09.96) and Ryder Russell (1:36.44) finished in 2nd and 3rd places respectively.

    On Saturday, July 13, Elkin traveled to Hillsville, Virginia to take on the Tigersharks of Carroll County and the Blue Dolphins of Bluefield, West Virginia. Although the day started off cool and foggy, things quickly heated up both in and out of the pool. EWL sailed to an easy victory over both teams, winning 839 to the Tigersharks 456 and the Blue Dolphins 23 points.

    In the girls 6 & under 25-yard backstroke event, Elkin’s Raegann Pendergraft nabbed the top spot with a time of 34.02. Ember Dobson (44.22) and Natalia Manigault (1:01.15) claimed 3rd and 4th place finishes. In the same event for the boys, Jack Gentry (37.17) took the 1st place finish while Brady Creed (1:08.75) came in 3rd place. In the 7-8 age group, Jordan Pardue (27.19) grabbed the 1st place finish. Iselle Westra (31.18), Adelynn Manigault (32.29), Claire Sisoukrath (33.62), and Amelia Tate (38.92) finished in 4th through 7th place. Nora Corcoran (50.08) came in 9th place. Swimming for the boys, Matthew Gentry (22.73) and Leo Storie (23.70) claimed the 1st and 2nd place finishes. Eli Royall (28.17), Jonah Johnson (28.95) and Michael Creed (28.98) picked up the 4th, 5th and 6th place finishes. Braxton Martin (48.93) and Xavier Pruitt (59.36) rounded out the event with 9th and 10th place finishes. In the girls 9-10 age group, Makaila Schosser (21.76), Catherine Huff (22.79) and Audrey Corcoran (25.17) took the top 3 spots. Inezleigh Westra (51.16) claimed a 7th place finish. In the girls 11-12 age group, Shayla Ange grabbed the 1st place finish with a time of 42.11. Melia Orta (50.34), Annabelle Dickerson (50.80), Lizzy Charles (53.72) and Aubree Pruitt (1:11.25) came in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 7th places respectively. Swimming for the boys, Merrick Russell (51.12) grabbed a 2nd place finish. In the 13-14 age group, Paisley Russell (41.86), Graceanna Church (47.60) and Katie Lyles (52.32) claimed the top 3 spots. Lucas Long (45.09) claimed the 1st place finish for the boys. In the girls 15-18 age group, Katie Beth Garza (34.62) and Sarika Hatcher (35.06) took 1st and 2nd place finishes. Swimming for the boys, Webb Snyder (28.52) took the 1st place finish. Parker Church (34.82) and Ryder Russell (51.25) took 5th and 6th places.

    Elkin Wet Lightning will host the Tigersharks at Elkin City Pools on Thursday, July 18 at 6pm and will travel to Dobson for their last regular season meet on Saturday, July 20, where competition will begin at 9am. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend. The Smoke Shack Food Truck will be at the meet on Thursday evening.
