Crews to remain on scene all night following large fire in Elkins

ELKINS, W.Va. (WBOY) — Crews are still on the scene of an industrial yard in Elkins Monday evening hours after a large fire broke out.
According to an official with the Randolph County 911 Center, a single company with the Elkins Fire Department, as well as the State Fire Marshal, are still on the scene of an industrial yard on Livingston Avenue nearly five hours after a large fire broke out.
Officials said that a couple of crews will remain on scene all night in order to ensure the fire doesn’t spark back up.
Officials with the Elkins Fire Department were unable to confirm any information about the fire including how it started or if any injuries were reported. There was also no update on if the road in the area was still closed as of Monday evening.

ELKINS, W.Va. (WBOY) — Elkins city officials are asking people to avoid the industrial yard as crews battle a large fire.
According to a post by the city , the Elkins Fire Department and other local agencies are at the scene of the fire, which is west of the intersection of 15th Street and Livingston Avenue. While crews work to contain the fire, Livingston Ave is closed from 15th Street to Scott’s Ford Road, a map released by the city shows .
Residents should avoid the area and take alternate routes. The fire is also causing heavy smoke, which could spread through town.

Residents who have respiratory conditions should remain inside to avoid smoke exposure, the city advised. The city also said that while fire hydrants are being used, some residents may notice discolored water, but according to the city, “This discoloration does not indicate a water quality issue at this time.”
