Fatal Shooting at Macon Gas Station Under Investigation
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred just after 11:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Details: RaQuavian Smith, 23, was driven to Navicent Hospital’s Emergency Room after being shot outside the Marathon Gas Station at 3102 Napier Ave. Despite efforts to save his life, Smith was pronounced dead by medical staff. The incident occurred as Smith was exiting the store, and the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.

Macon inmate pleads guilty to jail escape
MACON – A Macon man who broke out of the Bibb County Jail in 2023 as he was awaiting federal sentencing for armed drug trafficking has pleaded guilty to escaping from custody. Johnifer Dernard Barnwell, 38, pleaded guilty to one count of escape from custody before U.S. District Judge C. Ashley Royal. Barnwell faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison. His sentencing date will be determined by the court. There is no parole in the federal system. ...
