A new area of interest emerges in the tropics
BALTIMORE — After multiple quiet weeks, the National Hurricane Center is monitoring an area in the Atlantic just to the north of South America. This tropical wave currently, isn't so impressive. The NHC gave the area a 0% chance of development over the next 48 hours. Then conditions become more favorable, the 7-day outlook has the same wave with a 40% chance of development. We shall see if it gets a name. The next letter is "D" in our 2024 Atlantic Season alphabet named Debby. As long as they steer clear of Maryland all is good!
Eflin: “I’ve heard nothing but incredible things about this locker room"
Zach Eflin wasn’t ignorant to the trade rumors. He heard and read them. His soon-to-be former club kept him informed. Eflin was in the know and on a flight to Baltimore. This morning’s media clubhouse access allowed for introductions as Eflin stood in front of the locker that belonged to injured pitcher John Means. He already met his new teammates and threw a bullpen session. He expects to start Game 1 of Monday’s doubleheader against the Blue Jays at Camden Yards.
Ravens WR Rashod Bateman ‘excited’ to see Mark Andrews, Isaiah Likely together in action
The Baltimore Ravens have one of the best (if not the best) tight-end groups in the NFL. Led by Mark Andrews, the unit helps pace Baltimore’s offense, which also includes Isaiah Likely and Charlie Kolar. Likely has been an extremely pleasant surprise for the Ravens, as he’s stepped in for Andrews the last two years after the veteran was lost due to injury. However, wide receiver Rashod Bateman is excited to see the two together in action, as they have yet to do so over the course of their careers consistently. “I’m excited to see what it looks like. I don’t really know either. You have this guy, you have this guy, you have that guy, and at the end of the day, you have Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry, so I’m kind of like everybody else. I’m just excited to watch it.” Andrews and Likely have incredible skill sets that can feed off each other. The duo should have no problem co-existing, and quarterback Lamar Jackson should thoroughly enjoy throwing to both.
Mountcastle shines, Cano closes as Orioles snap San Diego's 7-game winning streak with an 8-6 win
BALTIMORE (AP) — Ryan Mountcastle hit a pair of two-run singles, Cedric Mullins made a terrific catch in center field and the Baltimore Orioles held off the Padres 8-6 on Sunday to snap San Diego’s seven-game winning streak. The Orioles scored six runs in the third, when their first six hitters reached base before Randy Vásquez (3-6) was pulled. By then, he’d already walked in a run, allowed an RBI single to Ryan O’Hearn and yielded a single by Mountcastle that made it 4-0. Mullins hit a two-run double later that inning, and then the Orioles nearly blew their six-run lead. San Diego scored three runs in the fifth, and Xander Bogaerts hit a two-run homer the following inning. In the eighth, Mullins made a running catch on Manny Machado’s drive before slamming into the wall. Mountcastle then drove in two runs in the bottom of the inning with a two-out hit to give the Orioles a bit of a cushion.
Orioles lineup missing Rutschman, Henderson batting third
The Orioles activated new starter Zach Eflin and assigned him uniform No. 24. Eflin threw yesterday and is a candidate to start one of the games in Monday’s doubleheader. Reliever Bryan Baker was optioned after yesterday’s game. The Orioles will try to avoid a sweep this afternoon with...
Ravens TE coach calls Mark Andrews a positionless player
Tight end is a very unique position in football, because it’s a hybrid of the position group comprised of the heaviest guys (offensive linemen, where size matters the most) and the position group consisting of the lightest guys (wide receivers, where speed counts the most) on the field. A tight end needs top-end speed and massive size, which can be challenging. So if you have a so-called “position-less player,” he would likely be in the tight end group. “@Mandrews_81’s a positionless player.” Tight ends coach Godsey pic.twitter.com/UDYVpMlWWi — Baltimore Ravens (@Ravens) July 27, 2024 Tight ends coach George Godsey has declared starting TE Mark Andrews a “position-less player,” and yes, it’s a compliment. “He gets it, and he’s capable of many things,” Godsey said of Andrews. “He’s a position-less player, and that’s how we talk about the room. We play outside, and we play inside in the slot. “We play attached; we have a lot of different roles. All those guys are capable, and Mark leads the group: him and Pat (Ricard).” Positionless basketball is all the rage on the hardwood right now. Will this ideology make the transition from the court to the gridiron? Maybe, but most likely not, given the advanced-level schematics and complicated strategies involved in football.
Orioles lose for 10th time in 14 games: ‘There’s a lot of frustration going on right now with a lot of guys’

Two runs scored and the Orioles went on to lose for the 10th time in 14 games, 9-4 to the San Diego Padres on Saturday.
