ELKTON — A man remained jailed Thursday after investigators raided his Elkton residence and confiscated suspect cocaine, suspect heroin mixed with fentanyl and a gun that he is prohibited from possessing, according to Cecil County District Court records.

Investigators identified the suspect as Michael Anthony Potter, 61, of the 200 block of High Street in Elkton.

Elkton Police Department investigators conducted a court-approved search of Potter’s residence shortly before midnight on Monday, some four hours after an EPD officer confiscated about two grams of suspect crack cocaine and $1,530 in cash from Potter during a traffic stop at the intersection of Bow and Howard Streets in downtown Elkton, court records show.

Potter’s behavior during the traffic stop, which occurred at approximately 7:40 p.m. Monday, was “consistent with a person who is involved in criminal activity” and that led to the search of the suspect, according to information that the EPD officer included in the charging document.

Information gathered during the traffic stop, in addition to the confiscation of the suspect crack cocaine and cash, resulted in the court-approved search of Potter’s residence later that night, police reported.

Investigators confiscated a semiautomatic .12 gauge shotgun and various types of ammunition, including 46 .380 caliber rounds, while searching the residence, court records allege. Investigators later contacted the Maryland State Police Gun Center and learned that Potter is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition because he was convicted of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute in Delaware in July 1990, according to the charging document.

Police also seized 37 baggies holding suspect heroin/fentanyl and two plastic baggies containing 14.2 grams of suspect cocaine, which is approximately a half-ounce, court records allege. (There are about 28 grams in one ounce.)

Potter is facing nine criminal charges, including possession of a shotgun by a disqualified person, possession with intent to distribute heroin/fentanyl and possession of a firearm in a drug trafficking crime, court records show.

He remained in the Cecil County Detention Center on no bond Thursday, two days after his bail review hearing, according to court records, which indicate that Cecil County District Court Administrative Judge Bonnie G. Schneider presided over that proceeding.
