River levels climb across northern Illinois due to recent rainfall
With how much heavy rain northern Illinois endured since Saturday afternoon, expect river levels to slowly rise over the next few days. Flood warnings remain in place for multiple spots along the Rock including Como, Byron, Latham Park, and Rockton. CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two of Chicago's major academic hospitals tied for first place as the best hospital in Illinois, according to a new ranking by U.S. News and World Report.Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Rush University Medical Center tied for the top spot.The list ranks hospitals based on several specialties. Northwestern Memorial Hospital was nationally ranked in 11 adult specialties – including 7th for cardiology, heart & vascular surgery and 8th for diabetes and endocrinology – and rated high-performing in 21 adult procedures and conditions. Rush University Medical Center was nationally ranked in 11 adult specialties – including 7th for neurology and neurosurgery, 10th for geriatrics, and 10th for orthopedics – and rated high-performing in 18 adult procedures and conditions.University of Chicago Medical Center came in third. Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn was ranked as the fourth best, followed by Endeavor Health NorthShore Hospitals in Evanston, and Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

Two Mt. Vernon residents arrested Monday on gun and drug charges
MT. VERNON, IL — Two Mt. Vernon residents were arrested just after 7 Monday morning on gun and drug charges. Members of the Mt. Vernon Police Department / Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Joint Narcotics Unit assisted the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force at a home on E. Saddle Club Road in Belle Rive (18526 E. Saddle Club Rd) with the execution of arrest warrants for the primary residents, 45-year-old Darren D. Edmison and 36-year-old Amber M. McCowen. The warrants were for prior Jefferson County Controlled Substance Trafficking charges. During service of the warrants, evidence of criminal activity was observed inside the home.
