Laurin Watts named SIU Softball pitching coach
CARBONDALE, Ill. – Softball head coach Jen Sewell has announced the hiring of Laurin Watts as the program’s pitching coach. “We have been anticipating this big announcement for a while now and I’m so glad we were able to get Laurin on board with us here at Saluki Softball,” Sewell said. “Laurin is one of the top up-and-coming pitching coaches in the country. Her name just kept coming up every time I asked about who is the next big pitching hire.”

Two Mt. Vernon residents arrested Monday on gun and drug charges
MT. VERNON, IL — Two Mt. Vernon residents were arrested just after 7 Monday morning on gun and drug charges. Members of the Mt. Vernon Police Department / Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Joint Narcotics Unit assisted the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force at a home on E. Saddle Club Road in Belle Rive (18526 E. Saddle Club Rd) with the execution of arrest warrants for the primary residents, 45-year-old Darren D. Edmison and 36-year-old Amber M. McCowen. The warrants were for prior Jefferson County Controlled Substance Trafficking charges. During service of the warrants, evidence of criminal activity was observed inside the home.
Spillway fails, levy fractured on Hubbard Lake in rural Centralia
Marion County Sheriff Kevin Cripps says the spillway has failed and the levee is in fractured status at Hubbard Lake off of Lake Road in rural Centralia. National Weather Service Confirms Three EF-1 Tornadoes In Quad Cities Area
(Davenport, IA) -- The National Weather Service is confirming at least three tornados touched down in the QCA from Monday's derecho. Andy Ervin with the National Weather Service says one moved through Davenport into Bettendorf before crossing the Mississippi River into Illinois. Another was on the ground for eight miles between Taylor Ridge and Andover. A third touched down near Kewanee.
