There are a lot of options for what to make this weekend. Vermont offers some delicious foods from their favorite restaurants that you might want to try cooking at home!
This weekend, have some Vermont-style cooking at home. These three recipes are iconic to their respective restaurants and come from some of the most loved Green Mountain State restaurants!
Iconic Vermont Restaurant Recipes
Not everyone feels comfortable heading to a restaurant for dinner quite yet. But, that doesn't mean that we want to give up our favorite restaurant dishes.
Thankfully, most of these Vermont restaurant recipes can be made quite easily at home. And, even best of all, it's much less expensive to cook them at home.
French Onion Soup from Sweetwaters in Burlington
One option is the French onion soup recipe, which comes compliments of Sweetwaters in Burlington. This dish highlights fresh ingredients: onions, beef broth, and thyme with melted cheese on top; now where could I find those?
I found this recipe to be quite similar. Serve it with a loaf of crusty bread and fresh butter for the ideal dinner.
Their address is 120 Church Street in Burlington, Vermont.
Hand-Cut Fries from Al's French Fries in South Burlington
It wouldn't be Vermont without a pint of French fries from Al's French Fries in South Burlington, Vermont. This restaurant is always on my list when I head toward the city.
While the restaurant has changed hands since I first discovered it, their French Fries are classic and a must-have if you're in the area. But, if you're not, you can always create them at home.
The key is to hand cut the fries and then deep fry them in oil. And, finish them off with a dash or two of white vinegar. Skip the cheese sauce, ketchup, or gravy. Vinegar is what makes these Vermont fries delicious.
Located at 1251 Williston Road in South Burlington.
The Pond Hill Wrap by Third Place Pizza in Castleton
By far my favorite sandwich recipe ever. This wrap is named after Pond Hill Stables which is located on Route 4A in Castleton, Vermont.
While I highly recommend you visit Third Place Pizza to try their version of this sandwich, you can create it at home as well.
You will need:
A grilled whole wheat wrap
Crispy chicken strips
A few leaves of lettuce
Freshly sliced tomatoes
Corn chips (or Fritos)
Real Vermont cheddar cheese
Barbecue sauce
Ranch salad dressing
Place all of the ingredients inside the wrap and serve. If you like, this Vermont recipe can also be served with French fries or thick-cut potato chips.
When you're in Castleton, I highly recommend that you stop by and enjoy the real thing.
They are located at 595 Main Street in Castleton.
Vermont is known for its delicious cuisine, but it's not always as simple to find a local restaurant. Luckily these traditional recipes are easy enough to make at home and they're perfect any time of year!
So, the next time you're missing one of these classic Vermont restaurant recipes, just keep in mind that you can make it yourself. But please support local businesses by stopping by for dine-in or take-out whenever possible!
