Repeat warm, dry, and breezy conditions means another afternoon of high fire risk north of the Tri-Cities
High pressure over the Eastern Pacific will extend into the region starting Monday night. This will keep the pressure gradient tight in the Cascades and through much of Central Oregon causing gusty to windy conditions in the afternoons for the mountains. Today will have windy conditions near the Kittitas Valley and the Columbia River Gorge starting late this morning and lasting through this evening. Winds 25-35 mph with gusts 35-45 mph in both the Kittitas Valley and through Snoqualmie Pass, plus North Central Oregon through the East end of the Columbia River Gorge. Cool air pushing through the gaps in the Cascades will be strong but keep temps cool in the upper 70s and low 80s. Elevated fire risk for these areas as chances of showers diminishes by the beginning of next week and dry breezy conditions follow through the Fourth of July.

State auditor reports finding for TC fire district
The state Auditor’s Office says a Tri-Cities area fire district didn’t have adequate controls in place to ensure its financial reporting was complete and accurate. The auditor’s office reviewed Benton Fire District 4’s finances from 2020-22 and issued the finding in a report released in late June.
