An Ellenville girl seen selling jewelry outside for days during the heat to earn money to buy a bicycle got a huge surprise from police on Monday. Izzy, 11, was spotted on Berme Road by Ellenville officers Dan Persell and Sal Giordano on patrol who asked the girl what she was doing. When they found out why she was there, they chipped in with a dispatcher Arnold Ortiz and Police Chief Phillip Mattracion to buy the girl the $140 bicycle she wanted. “It’s about showing the youth and being engaged with our youth and showing them that if you work hard and do it honestly and try to put your best foot forward good things happen,” says Mattracion. The department members gave the girl the surprise outside of her makeshift store called “Izzy’s Shop,” as advertised on piece of cardboard stapled to a tree. The girl’s mother is heard on video during the surprise saying, “Oh my gosh!” Izzy is seen smiling and saying “thank you” to the officers. Izzy was also given a new helmet and bike lock by police. The girl tells News 12 that she earned $200 before police gave her the bike by selling her handmade jewelry for about $1. Chief Phillip Mattracion says they told Izzy to save her money to buy something else. Izzy was back out on Berme Road selling jewelry on Tuesday and says she rode her bike there. "
