Ansonia Schedules Public Hearing To Dissolve WPCA Board, Publishes “Transition Plan” For Aquarion Sale
ANSONIA – The Ansonia Board of Aldermen has scheduled a public hearing at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday (July 24) to dissolve the city’s Water Pollution Control Authority (WPCA). The proposal includes the repeal of a city ordinance establishing the WPCA, and the passage of a replacement ordinance which grants the Board of Aldermen all the powers and responsibilities the WPCA previously held. CHARLTON — A horse that wandered to the edge of the Massachusetts Turnpike Monday morning, drawing a double-take from passing motorists, has been returned to its owner. State troopers wrangled the cooperative palomino after authorities received reports of a grazing horse to the side of the westbound lanes. A trucker from Texas joined the rescue, offering the troopers a length of rope and a helping hand.

The woman sustained minor injuries in the attack. Environmental police in Connecticut euthanized a 280-pound black bear Saturday afternoon after it bit a woman in Cheshire. Small classes allow for in-depth projects at Westfield’s Vacation Academy
WESTFIELD — Kate Perez, math supervisor for Westfield schools, and Karoline Kells, assistant principal at Westfield Middle School, were excited to tour some of the classes at the two-week Project Lead the Way Summer Vacation Academy at Highland Elementary School July 8-19. The academy was funded by an Acceleration Academy grant of $173,000, and served kindergarten through sixth grade. Preschoolers also had a class funded by the Commonwealth Preschool Partnership Initiative. Altogether, 245 students and 30 teachers participated in the camp.
