ELMIRA HEIGHTS, N.Y. ( WETM ) — A new building project has made its way onto the agenda for the next Chemung County Planning Board meeting, with plans to tear down a beloved former diner.

Manos Diner on College Avenue was once the spot for many, young and old, to get a hot breakfast any time of the day. When the restaurant closed in 2008, the building fell into disrepair and now sits crumbling along one of the area’s most popular roadways.

On Friday, the agenda came out for the Chemung County Planning Board, and on that agenda was a proposal for a brand-new Dollar General to go on the lot of the former Manos.

According to building plans, The 12,480 sq ft new structure with 47 planned parking spaces would fit in what is currently the Manos parking lot, while Manos would be torn down and become part of Dollar General’s parking lot.

The plans have yet to be reviewed by the planning board, so items in the building plans are subject to change.

The next Chemung County Planning Board meeting will be held on Thursday, July 25, at 3 p.m.
