The Tompkins County Emergency Communications Center had what it believes to be the highest volume of calls in a single day on Monday, July 15, due to severe storms. The center said in a Thursday statement that the vast majority of calls received by the center from the afternoon through the late evening on July 15 were for trees and wires down, as a line of severe thunderstorms moved through the area, producing heavy rain and high winds.

Troopers investigate fatal crash in Owego
On July 18, 2024, shortly after 1 p.m., New York State Police were dispatched to the construction area of State Route 17 in the town of Owego for a serious crash. According to police, a tractor-trailer and a motorcycle with two occupants collided shortly after 1 p.m. The collision left one-person deceased, and a second person was transported to Wilson Medical Center.

Binghamton resident arrested for identity theft, grand larceny in Owego
A 48-year-old Binghamton resident was arrested for identity theft and grand larceny following an incident in the Village of Owego earlier this year. Jamie M. Levene was charged with possession of a forged instrument in the second degree and identity theft in the first degree, both Class D felonies, as well as a felony count of grand larceny in the fourth degree.
