ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) — Dozens were in attendance on Thursday as the President of Arnot Health cut the ribbon and marked the completion of an upgraded orthopedics facility inside Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Elmira.

The ceremony took place on Thursday, June 27, as the expansion comes to the first floor of the Madison Avenue building. After two years of construction, the facility adds an improved waiting room, 19 exam rooms, and two x-ray rooms to what Dr. Matthew Brand says will give patients more access to the department.

“Most importantly is the access it gives to our patients to the orthopedic surgery department,” Dr. Brand said, “and in an office that has bright and large, and wide hallways and handicap accessible for scooters, wheelchairs, and really has been valued and really important for our patients in the community,” he said.

Out in the lobby, a group gathered as the Arnot Health President/CEO Jonathan Lawrence spoke and thanked all those in attendance who helped over the past two years in creating the new facility.

Dr. Brand spoke and gave a more in-depth thank you to former surgeons in attendance responsible for an orthopedics practice in Elmira and everyone else who played a special part in the journey.
