    Elmira Fire Department to receive federal funding for new gear, training

    ELMIRA, N.Y. ( WETM ) – The Elmira Fire Department, among 15 other fire departments in New York State, will be receiving federal funding to support the efforts of firefighters, as announced by U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.

    According to Senator Schumer and Senator Gillibrand, the funds total $1,478,994.39 and will be used to provide protective gear, training and supplies to state fire departments. The funds are tax-payer funded and distributed through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

    Troop Ride returns for its 17th year this weekend

    Out of the $1,478,994.39 that is being distributed throughout the state, the Elmira Fire Department will receive $27,009.92.

    The grants are awarded to applicants that most closely meet the program’s requirements, as well as demonstrate a commitment to its priorities.
