Cooling stations & water distribution in the Twin Tiers

SOUTHERN TIER, N.Y. ( WETM ) – Due to power outages in connection to the severe weather on Monday evening in the Twin Tiers, local organizations are putting cooling stations and water distribution centers in place for residents to utilize.

Thousands in the Southern Tier are still without power as of Tuesday, July 16, and severe weather conditions will continue moving in today, including a heat advisory. In order to help residents in the Twin Tiers keep cool and hydrated until power is restored, the following resources will be available this afternoon.

Chemung County

According to a release from the Chemung County Executive’s Office, cooling stations will be in place at the following locations in Chemung County:

• Steele Memorial Library
  • 101 E Church St., Elmira
• New Beginnings United Methodist Church
  • 300 E Miller St., Elmira

Water distribution events sites will be in place in the following locations in Chemung County:

• Grace Lee Memorial Wesleyan Church
  • 2075 Chambers Rd., Beaver Dams
  • Beginning at 11 a.m.
• Southport Volunteer Fire Department
  • 1001 Carl St., Elmira
  • Beginning at 11 a.m.
• East Water St. and Dewitt Ave. parking lot
  • Adjacent to the Clarion Inn, across the street from the Chemung County Nursing Facility
  • Beginning at 11 a.m.
• Erin Town Hall
  • 1138 New York State Route 223, Erin
  • From 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Residents are encouraged to bring a bag with them to the event.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., an ice distribution event will be held by the Chemung County Office of Emergency Management at the following location:

• Ice Company of Elmira
  • 401 Madison Ave., Elmira
  • Residents without power will be allowed 2-7 pound bags

Steuben County

A cooling and phone charging station will be open at the following location in Steuben County unless power is restored beforehand:

• Addison American Legion Post 730
  • 85 Maple St., Addison
  • Beginning at 2 p.m.

A water distribution site will be in place at the following location:

• Gang Mills Fire Department
  • 125 Forest Dr., Painted Post
  • From 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Schuyler County

Cooling and phone charging stations will be open at the following locations in Schuyler County:

• Beaver Dams Volunteer Fire Department
  • 1165 County Road 19, Beaver Dams
• Village of Montour Falls Fire Department
  • 111 Lee St., Montour Falls
• Watkins Glen Public Library
  • 610 S. Decatur St., Watkins Glen
• Dutton S. Peterson Memorial Library
  • 106 First St., Odessa

Tioga County, Pa

A cooling and phone charging station will be open at the following location in Tioga County, Pennsylvania:

• Mansfield Hose Company
  • 381 S. Main St., Mansfield
  • From 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
