    Chemung County inmate injured after hot soup was poured over him; one arrested

    ELMIRA, N.Y. ( WETM ) — One man was injured and another was arrested this week after police say hot soup was poured over an inmate at the Chemung County Jail, resulting in burns.

    According to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, 36-year-old Brendan P. Crowley was arrested on Monday, July 15, on the charge of assault in the second degree, a class D felony.

    Police said that Crowley, already an inmate in the Chemung County Jail, said that an incident took place inside the jail where Crowley assaulted another inmate by pouring hot soup over him, causing serious burns.

    Crowley was processed following the arrest and returned to the jail. The status of the victim was not mentioned.
