    Elmira Pioneers earn walk-off win over Niagara

    ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – The Elmira Pioneers saved the best for last Thursday night.

    Elmira scored the game-winning run in walk-off fashion at Dunn Field beating Niagara 13-12. In a wild back-and-forth game, Matt Leahy delivered an RBI single for the decisive game-winning hit in the bottom of the ninth as the Pioneers remained in third place in the PGCBL West.

    Niagara, the last place team in the division, stormed out to a big 8-1 lead after the top half of the sixth inning. In the bottom of the sixth, the Pioneers brought the offense with an explosive nine runs in the inning.

    Wellsboro grad Darryn Callahan smacked an RBI double which capped of the scoring in the sixth inning. Calvin Warrillow also added a bases clearing double driving in three runs for the Pioneers in the sixth.

    Leahy added two RBI on the night including the game winner in the final frame. Next up for the Pioneers (17-15) is a home game Friday night vs. Geneva (13-16) at 6:35 PM.

    The Pioneers currently sit in third place in the PGCBL West, the final spot up for a playoff birth. Elmira is one win ahead Jamestown (16-19) in the win column of the West standings.
