New tobacco shop opening near Elmira College after “stop work” order

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – 18 News confirmed the opening of “Tokz Exotics” on College Avenue is moving forward after the Elmira Code Department issued a “Stop Work” order last month. The Code Department told us the business will sell “tobacco and tobacco-related” products.

The tobacco shop is being built at the former location of a Jimmy John’s sandwich shop, next to the former Family Video Store.

Friday, an 18 News reporter saw the “Tokz Exotics” sign on the business was taken down. The Code Department told us the sign will be put back up when the business secures the proper permits. We’re told the shop is expected to open in a few weeks.

The “Stop Work” order posted on the front door on June 25th has also been removed. The order said it was “issued by reason of certain deviations from the requirements of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Elmira.”

18 News made multiple attempts to contact the owner of the business. We left a message with a commercial real estate company posted on the building called “Legacy Commercial Properties.” As of July 19th, we have not heard back.
