ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – A local sports writer and Corning enthusiast has returned home after a medical scare.

Tom Passmore, a former sports reporter at The Corning Leader and graduate of Corning East High, Corning Community College and Mansfield University is back home after being hit with Legionella Pneumonia.

The disease is a severe type of pneumonia that creates lung inflammation caused by an infection.

Last week, Passmore was airlifted to a hospital in Albany where he was fighting for his life. Passmore was sedated and then put on a ventilator in effort to combat his tough condition. After several nights of prayer, strength and hope Passmore was able to breathe on his own again. Passmore, 32, took to social media after his long hospital stay giving thanks to all who showed support and discussed his newfound respect for life.

Amid the outpouring of support, a special GoFundMe page was created by friend Allison Hall and can be found here: https://gofund.me/c851ca6f

18 Sports gives all of our strength to Passmore during his road to recovery. It’s expected that he will make a full recovery after coming down with the infection. Passmore is one of the most sincere and dedicated workers in the Twin Tiers.
