ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – It was a day for the record books as the Elmira Pioneers split a doubleheader Sunday.

Elmira lost game one to the Jamestown Tarp Skunks 5-0 and went on to cruise in the second game 9-3. Although there wasn’t an offensive explosion in the first game for the Pioneers, veteran player Cooper Smith made some history at the plate.

Smith notched his 100th career hit in a Pioneers uniform with a single to right field in the bottom of the seventh inning. Cooper is in his second summer as an outfielder for the Pioneers and continues to shine at the plate.

In the second game, Smith drove in a run securing RBI number 19 on the summer. Eddie Kaufman paced the Pioneers with two RBI and Matt Leahy secured an RBI double in the 9-3 win in game two.

Elmira travels to Auburn Tuesday night at 7:05 PM. The Pioneers (14-13-1) are currently in third place in the PGCBL West. Auburn (16-12-1) are just ahead of Elmira in standings and are managed by former Pioneers manager the legendary Dan Shwam.
