Man arrested after police receive report of menacing involving a gun

Correction: A previous version of this article stated that the man who was taken into custody was arrested after he was found with a gun. At this time, police have not confirmed whether or not a gun was present at the time of his arrest. The information has since been corrected.

ELMIRA, N.Y. ( WETM ) – One man was placed in custody on Friday afternoon after an incident on East Water Street and Baldwin in Elmira.

An 18 News reporter spoke with members of the Elmira Police Department, who confirmed that they were called to the scene around 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 26, for the report of a menacing that involved a man with a gun.

As a result, one man was placed under arrest but it has not been confirmed whether or not a gun was present at the time of his arrest.

A reporter at the scene saw at least two EPD officers enter the Chemung Canal Bank following the incident. An EPD detective was also seen speaking to people near the scene. The incident did not happen inside the bank and no bank customer was affected or in danger.
