Mancelona to host six free music concerts this summer
MANCELONA – Mancelona Chamber of Commerce has announced six live music concerts have been scheduled for this summer. The first event is scheduled for Tuesday, July 9, with Yankee Station. Comprised of four men and one woman, this energized band plays the songs of popular artists and has entertained at northern Michigan venues for more than 30 years.
Drones added to popular fireworks show at Otsego Lake on July 6
GAYLORD — A mainstay since the 1960s, the popular fireworks show on Otsego Lake returns this year with an interesting twist featuring a combination of drones and fireworks. Tim Beattie of the Otsego Lake Association said this year's show will occur at 10:30 p.m. on July 6 at Otsego Lake County Park.
Restoration project for Mount Carmel Centre resumes this week
GAYLORD — Two local firms have teamed up to begin the second phase of the restoration project for the Mount Carmel Centre on North Otsego Avenue in Gaylord. The Mount Carmel Centre was previously St. Mary Church, which was built in 1900. In an effort to preserve the building, the Mount Carmel Historical Group was founded and the organization purchased the building from the Diocese of Gaylord in 1985. It was placed in the Michigan Historical Register in 2006.

Goodwill Northern Michigan sees need, opens new store in Grayling
GRAYLING — On Friday, Goodwill Northern Michigan held a ribbon cutting ceremony for their grand opening in Grayling. After doing some research, Goodwill discovered that many customers in Grayling were travelling more than an hour to get to a Goodwill store. Now people who live in the Grayling area will be able to shop locally and donate their items. When shoppers purchase items at their stores, Goodwill says that money is reinvested back into the community. “The great thing about the Goodwill mission, that the store is a great place for people to shop and also when they’re shopping, they’re shopping with a purpose, they’re making an impact on the community with their their shopping and their donation,” said Dan Buron, executive director.

Traffic changes for I-75 BL (South Otsego Avenue) project in Gaylord start July 9
GAYLORD, Mich. - For the next phase of the Michigan Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) $13.3 million project to rebuild 2.2 miles of the I-75 Business Loop (BL) (South Otsego Avenue) between southbound I-75 Exit 279 and Wisconsin Avenue/Grandview Boulevard in Gaylord, traffic patterns will change at the McCoy Road intersection.
