After failing to get on the scoresheet in his first game at the 2024 World Junior Summer Showcase in Plymouth, MA, New York Islanders prospect Jesse Nurmi was a standout in Game Two for Team Finland.

Despite a 5-3 loss against Team USA's Blue squad, the fourth-round pick in 2023 scored a goal, adding an assist as the team's second-line left winger.

His goal was a bizarre one, making it a 5-2 game after the puck bounced off the back of his head and in:

Right place, right time, so they say. Also, "That's why you wear a helmet."

Nurmi then made a strong play to force a turnover before making a quick, nifty pass to Topias Hynninen for the in-tight 2-on-0 finish:

Per Ellis, in his latest for The Daily Faceoff :

"After a decent first game, Nurmi had a nice two-point effort with a goal and an assist. He scored the first one for the Finns and then made a couple of great passes with Topias Hynninen to make it 5-3. Nurmi should be leaned on as one of Finland's better players at the main event, but even more so here as the Finns are missing some key forwards in Plymouth."

Nurmi and Team Finland will be back in action on Wednesday, at 4 PM ET, against the USA.

Nurmi was selected by the London Knights in the CHL's import draft and will be playing for them for the 2024-25 season as a 19-year-old.
