Ivy Tech Holds Graduation Ceremony at WV Correctional Facility
Carlisle, In. – Seven students recently participated in a special graduation ceremony at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility in Carlisle. These students are incarcerated at the facility and completed Ivy Tech’s welding training program. The program is 90 hours of instruction and helps the offenders learn a skill that will help them when they are released. Ivy Tech partners with the Indiana Department of Corrections to do this program.
Vigo County Mourns The Loss Of Sheriff John Plasse
Terre Haute, In. – Vigo County Sheriff John Plasse died Wednesday morning after a courageous battle against cancer. Plasse was in his second term as Vigo County Sheriff. Before being elected sheriff, he had spent 33 years with the Terre Haute police department and served as Chief of Police under Mayor Duke Bennett. Plasse was named Terre Haute Police Department Officer of the Year in 2004 for his dedication to duty. Plasse retired in 2017 as Sergeant Major with the 38th Infantry Division in the Indiana Army National Guard, where he served 34 years. His deployments included time in Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The Vigo County Commissioners request that all flags be flown at half-staff until after Plasse’s Services.

Vincennes Police investigate two shootings
Two shootings in Vincennes are under investigation, one involving murder. Vincennes Police reported Wednesday that 18-year-old Calvin James Wittmer has been jailed at 4:12 AM. The arrest is connected to an incident on North 14th Street at 12:35-am. Wittmer initially fled the scene but later surrendered peacefully at a residence on Canbro Street. The victim has not been identified.

Carey Huls, a state trooper saw a man driving a white Chevy Blazer in an unsafe manner Wednesday afternoon, and the driver sped off when the trooper tried to pull him over.
