Ely boy, 8, injured after contact with vehicle

ELY -- An 8-year-old Ely boy suffered non-life-threatening injuries Thursday after a vehicle made contact with him while he was walking in a crosswalk, a Minnesota State Patrol report said.

The boys was taken to Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center after the 8:26 a.m. incident.

Driver Gordon William Chinander, 61, of Ely was not injured.

His vehicle was traveling southbound/westbound on Highway 169 near N. Central Ave. when the vehicle made contact as the boy was walking northbound/eastbound in the crosswalk.
