LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) — The Wilder Fire near the Nevada-Oregon border has grown by about 900 acres to a total of 17,271 acres, according to reports at about 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

The smaller North Creek Fire, about 50 miles northeast of Ely, had not grown significantly since Monday, remaining at an estimated 1,100 acres. “Fire behavior is minimal, mostly creeping and smoldering, though a lot of heat remains. Crews are reinforcing the dozer line around the fire and dousing hot spots,” Bureau of Land Management (BLM) officials reported.

Both fires were caused by humans, according to information posted by the BLM.

A third fire, the Horse Fire near the Nye-Eureka county line, grew slightly to 106 acres.

Firefighters worked to contain the blazes in hot, dry weather as a high pressure system continued to elevate temperatures across Nevada.

The Wilder Fire is now 40% contained, BLM reported. North Creek is 35% contained with containment expected on Sunday, and no containment estimate is available for the Horse Fire.
