    Highway reopened after dump truck bed hits bridge

    ELYRIA , Ohio (WJW) — All lanes of U.S. Route 20 East in Lorain County were closed Monday morning after a raised dump truck bed struck the overpass, causing a spill, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol .

    At about 9:30 a.m. on Monday, a dump truck was headed east, nearing the Lagrange Road/state Route 301 overpass in Carlisle Township , according to the patrol.

    As it neared the bridge, its bed began to rise. The raised bed struck the bridge and broke off from its power unit, according to a patrol spokesperson. The bed’s contents spilled across the roadway. The power unit went off the roadway into a gore.

    The driver of the dump truck suffered minor injuries, according to the spokesperson.

    Motorists were detoured around the crash by exiting onto state Route 301, then getting back onto the highway, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation .

    The road reopened just after 12:30 p.m.

    There have been nearly 1,500 crashes on U.S. Route 20 in Lorain County since 2019, including nearly 100 so far this year, according to Ohio State Highway Patrol crash statistics .
