Bellamy, Hoeft advance as district court judge nominees
LINCOLN — The state is moving closer to filling a judicial vacancy in Central Nebraska. Gov. Jim Pillen’s office announced Wednesday that the Judicial Nominating Commission forwarded two nominees to the governor for consideration: Melodie Bellamy on Kearney and Tim Hoeft of Holdrege. The nominees are vying to become a district court judge for the 10th Judicial District, which includes Adams, Clay, Franklin, Harlan, Kearney, Nuckolls, Phelps and Webster counties.

PONCA – Ponca State Park will be offering many family activities this weekend. On Friday, Join Ponca State park for an introduction to Tomahawk and Atlatl class from 9:00-11:00am. Participants must be eight years of age or older with adult supervision. Meet and pay at the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex. The cost is $1 for six throws. At 1:00pm, participants can join a naturalist to learn about Lewis and Clark and their journey passing Ponca, Nebraska on the Missouri River. It will be held for free at the Overlook.
Madison man sentenced for involvement in fentanyl distribution conspiracy
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A Madison man was sentenced Wednesday for his involvement in a fentanyl distribution conspiracy. District Court Judge Brian Buescher sentenced Jason Penalbert, 37, to more than 4 years imprisonment for conspiring to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl. Once Penalbert is released from prison, he will begin a two-year term of supervised release.

Nebraska City subdivision dirtwork extended
(Nebraska City) -- Recent wet weather has pushed back preliminary work on Nebraska City's new subdivision. Earlier this week, the Nebraska City City Council approved a change order extending the Kreifels Hills Subdivision's substantial completion date from August 1st to September 1st, and the final completion from September 1st to the 30th. Nebraska City Mayor Bryan Bequette tells KMA News rainy weather pushed back infrastructure work in the subdivision planned for property in the northern portion of the community near CHI St. Mary's Hospital.
Nebraska offers 2026 wide receiver
The Nebraska Cornhuskers have offered a scholarship to a top player in the class of 2026. Xavier McDonald is a four-star wide receiver from Morton High School in Morton, MS. Last season, as a sophomore, he appeared in 11 varsity football games. McDonald made 56 receptions for 1,166 yards and 16 touchdowns. The wideout has been a popular name on the recruiting trail. Nebraska is the 15th scholarship offer, with McDonald already holding offers from Auburn, LSU, and Ole Miss. The SEC appears to be a front-runner for his commitment. According to On3’s Recruitment Prediction Machine, Auburn is the early leader. The Huskers do not hold any commitments to the class of 2026 but have extended numerous offers in the past week. HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - A Hastings man received a term of four years of supervised probation after police say he threatened his neighbors with a gun. Anthony Copley, 21, pleaded no contest earlier this year to attempted possession of a firearm during a commission of a felony and terroristic threats, both felony charges.
