A new biography reveals the dramatic 30-minute phone call that nearly derailed Prince William and Kate Middleton's relationship.

The narrative of Catherine, The Princess of Wales sheds light on a pivotal moment that almost ended their relationship before it could truly begin.

According to Jobson, the 2007 split was both sudden and emotionally charged. Prince William, then 25, called Kate Middleton to end their relationship, stating that they needed “a bit of space” to “find our own way.” 

This decisive phone call, lasting just 30 minutes, left Kate reeling and emotionally distraught. The breakup came at a time when their future seemed promising, marked by frequent visits and public appearances suggesting a deepening commitment.

Kate, who was reportedly devastated by the phone call, took refuge in a brief media hiatus, traveling with her mother and later with friends. 

Meanwhile, Prince William sought solace in London’s nightlife, notably at Mahiki nightclub. Despite their separation, both were frequently in the media's eye, with Kate’s public outings generating considerable attention.

Jobson writes, according to an excerpt published in the Daily Mail, that their story took a surprising turn at a “Freakin Naughty” themed costume party hosted by jockey Sam Waley-Cohen. Dressed as a nurse, Kate caught William’s attention, leading to an emotional and celebratory reunion. 

This encounter at the party, marked by intense conversation and an unexpected kiss on the dance floor, reignited their romance. The couple’s eventual reconciliation set the stage for their engagement in 2010 and wedding in 2011.
