Thursday, August 1 Forecast: Fine Friday weather follows tonight’s front

Happy August! We did an exceptional job of avoiding the heat and humidity through July with just 8 days in the 90s for the entire month. August, however, begins differently and is more typical of the “dog days of summer.”

Hot weather will continue to be a factor through the weekend, but we are giving the heat and humidity a trim. A cold front pushing through this evening will usher in slightly cooler and less humid air. The front is also providing the area one final shot at rain before a long stretch without.

Spotty showers and thunderstorms will bubble up south of a Berryville to Eminence line. Drier air will gradually build south across the Ozarks shutting down rain chances by morning. The drier air will also make for a more comfortable morning with lows in the upper 60s and low 70s.

Friday will be our nicest day of the week, sun-filled with a nice breeze. Temperatures will get hot in the afternoon but the lack of humidity will keep the heat tolerable.

The weekend will remain bright and dry with highs in the low 90s. The evenings and mornings will remain comfortable.

The early August heat looks to remain firmly in place early next week as the summer ridge expands east once again. The flat ridge may open the door for some western wildfire smoke and hazy skies. The pattern also looks very dry. Temperatures will climb through early next week with our hottest day of the summer on the table for Tuesday’s weather.

The next cold front is scheduled for Wednesday of next week and it should provide at least a little relief from the early week heat. With the boundary in the area, we may see limited rain chances return as well.

Another weather headline next week could be tropical weather impacting the Southeast. Keep an eye on this if you have travel plans from Florida up into the Carolinas.
