ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Police are investigating a fatal early morning shooting Saturday. Officers with SLMPD responded to the 200 block of N. 9th Street at around 3:30 a.m. Saturday for a call for a shooting, where they found a man who had been shot. The victim, identified on Sunday as 18-year-old Michael Moore-Pittman was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Former Chiefs lineman Isaiah Buggs sentenced to hard labor in Alabama on animal cruelty charges
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Former Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs has been convicted on two counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty charges. Tuscaloosa County District Judge Joanne Jannik sentenced Buggs on July 19 to a year of hard labor, ordering him to serve 60 days. The rest would be suspended for two years “pending the behavior of the defendant.”

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Patrick Wisdom hit a grand slam as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning, Seiya Suzuki also homered and the Chicago Cubs beat the Kansas City Royals 9-4 on Saturday night. Wisdom hit for Pete Crow-Armstrong and laced the homer 440-feet off Sam Long into the fountains in left for a 7-4 lead. The runners were put on base by Seth Lugo (12-5), who went 6 1/3 innings. He allowed six earned runs on five hits while walking two and striking out two. Julian Merryweather (1-0) pitched an inning for the victory. Cubs starter Shota Imanaga went 5 2/3 innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits and three strikeouts. Suzuki hit his 15th homer.

The U.S. economy grew at a 2.8% annual rate in the second quarter, outpacing expectations. The gross domestic product snapshot published Thursday showed second-quarter economic expansion doubled the first quarter's 1.4% rate. The growth was driven primarily by increases in consumer spending for goods and services, private inventory investment and nonresidential fixed investment. SLPS superintendent placed on temporary leave of absence after board holds closed-session meeting
ST. LOUIS — The superintendent of Saint Louis Pubic Schools was placed on a temporary leave of absence by the district's board of education. In a statement, the board said Superintendent Keisha Scarlett was placed on leave, and Deputy Superintendent Millicent Borishade will be acting superintendent. The statement did not provide a reason for the change.
