WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office had to terminate a pursuit of a possible stolen black SUV on Tuesday due to high speeds.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office says it happened just after 4 a.m. Deputies attempted to stop the SUV on West 6th Avenue and Prairie Street in Emporia, but the vehicle didn’t stop and reached speeds over 102 mph. Deputies and the Emporia Police Department lost sight of the SUV.

About 90 minutes later, the sheriff’s office says the same SUV was spotted traveling on Interstate 35 heading southbound. Deputies again tried to stop the vehicle, but it traveled through the center median and headed north. The pursuit went through Coffey, Osage, and Franklin counties and ended southeast of Ottawa. The sheriff’s office says tire deflation devices were deployed four separate times.
