    Flags to be lowered in Lyon County Friday

    EMPORIA, Kan. (KSNW) — Governor Laura Kelly has ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff in Lyon County Friday.

    The flags will be lowered in honor of City Commissioner and Emporia Mayor Danny Giefer.

    “Mayor Giefer’s commitment and contributions to the people of Emporia will not be forgotten,” said Governor Kelly in a news release. “His tireless work to support the community was felt by many. My condolences go out to his family and loved ones.”

    Giefer died Saturday, July 6 , at his home. He was 76.

    Remains found in search for missing Kansas man; murder suspected

    Services begin at 2 p.m. with the recitation of The Rosary at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Emporia . The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 3 p.m.

    Memorials have been established with the Emporia Friends of the Zoo and Hand-In-Hand Hospice . Contributions can be sent to Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, PO Box #175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.

    Flags will fly at half-staff in Lyon County from sunrise to sunset in honor of Giefer.
