According to Enfield Police, a citizen called police around 3:00 a.m. Wednesday morning after witnessing three suspects attempting to get into vehicles parked around Tolland Drive. When officers arrived to check out the area, a Dodge Durango and red Chevrolet SUV drove off. Officers quickly followed but eventually backed off due to Connecticut state policy on pursuits.

However, an Enfield officer was able to deploy a tire deflation device on the Durango which came to a stop on I-91 South. Three people got out of the vehicle and attempted to run away but an officer was able to arrest two juveniles. K-9 and drone units, as well as officers from East Windsor, Hartford and State Police assisted in the search for the third suspect.

During their search, it was discovered that a Durango had been stolen from David Street in Enfield, which is less than a mile away from the highway. Police say they were unable to find the third suspect who is believed to also be a juvenile.

“EPD was able to recover a stolen motor vehicle and apprehend suspects thanks to the assistance of a citizen calling in a complaint at the time of the crime occurring. We can not stress enough to make sure that your vehicles are always locked while unattended,” stated the Enfield Police Department.
