Man arrested in Enfield road rage incident involving gunfire

ENFIELD, Conn. (WWLP) – A road rage incident in Enfield on Wednesday, escalated to gunfire, leading to the arrest of a local man.

The Enfield Police Department received a report at 11:54 p.m. about a confrontation on Freshwater Boulevard, where a shot was fired. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Following the incident, police located the suspect on Ganny Terrace and conducted a “high-risk” motor vehicle stop. The suspect, identified as 44-year-old Peter Smario III of Enfield, was taken into custody.

Smario faces multiple charges, including:

• Criminal Attempt to Commit Assault in the First Degree
• Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, Violation of a Restraining Order (two counts)
• Possession of a Firearm without a Permit
• Criminal Possession of a Firearm
• Criminal Mischief
• Threatening in the First Degree
• Weapons in a Motor Vehicle

Enfield police confirmed that Smario is being held on a $1,000,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear at GA-14 on Friday morning.
